How I'd wear a pea coat

Isabel Marant Etoile Atea coat
I’ve been eyeing this beautifully structured pea coat from Isabel Marant for quite a few months, and now I’m finally able to tick it off my wish list. Hurray! I compromised and went for a very dark navy one, despite the fact that I’ve always had both a black and navy pea coat on my list of dream purchases.

The timing couldn’t be more perfect as it’s started getting beastly cold outside. As with almost every new wardrobe addition of mine, I make collages. Not that I’m breaking any new ground, but it’s a great way to visually pinpoint my taste, preferences and style. I like doing collages with items I already possess and items of which I’m planning to get hold in the future.

Well, I’m aware that there are a lot of different shades of blue in these outfits. I think I tend to wear blue more than black nowadays, or any other color for that matter. And whoopsy daisy, there are oodles of A.P.C. items in the collages below. Obsessed much?

  2. L.L.: Exactly! I'm a A.P.C. whore!

  3. do you know what color those cheap mondays are in? i'm trying to find the quest-ender of blue jeans but it's been really difficult.

  4. Catherine: The model is called "Cheap Monday Usa Blue Zip Low Super Skinny Jeans". I used to own this pair but resold it because it was 4 sizes too big for me. The color is great!

  5. I bought this coat in grey, but this post has made me very sad because I like the darker version SO much better! I didn't even know it came in other colors...

  6. That coat is SO gorgeous! Is it very warm? I need to find a perfect coat for Winter in Paris...

  7. I mostly wear my navy with black so a dark navy should be a nice in between. Hopefully this Marant item ends up being a keeper. I really like the shirts you picked for these sets too.

  8. Beautiful pea coat (and the APC ribbed sweater as well)! I always enjoy your collages. I mostly wear navy/blue as well because it's as versatile as black without being as harsh.

  9. Beautiful! I actually like navy better than black at the moment - a rich navy just looks so luxe.

  10. Gorgeous peacoat! Great purchase, definitely something you'll be able to wear for years and years to come. And I'm totally obsessed with those Church's brogues. I posted the white ones here:

Do you own those already or is it a wishlist item? And if you do have them, do you love them? Were they worth it? Tell all...

  13. a beloved peacoat of mine finally wore out, and i'm making do with my barbour this year. how do you like the fit of your IM one? and what is it lined with ? :)

  14. Navy is such a great colour, and I wish I needed a coat! Can't wait to see you in it.

Fall is always the time of the year where I look at the lookbooks and people's new clothes wistfully and wish I could part of it all. Unfortunately, where I am, it's about 30 degrees celsius out today and humidity is something disgusting like 90 per cent.

  18. i dream about sofia coppola x louis vuitton bag!

  19. I like the collages! The APC tote sticks out like a sore thumbs in all the other elegant items, though, I am afraid. Did you get a Sophia Copploa LV? I die.

  20. I would wear all of this. Glorious. I wear a lot of blue too, especially in summer. I'm looking for more blue items to update my winter wardrobe with and I think a white shirt underneath a blue crew-neck jumper would be perfect.

  21. Two of the collages have gone off the side of my screen and I can't see them properly! Probably me. I'll try again later as I think I can see 'my' Margaret Howell shirt there. I love most of the items you choose and indeed own some of them. I prefer navy to black as too much black makes me look very ill.

I am also the owner of a pared down wardrobe of carefully chosen items and it makes me very happy spending only on items I really like. I am already planning my buys for next Spring, I loved the M Howell navy striped shirt and skirt. If I can save enough I loved a couple of Jil Sander pieces. Please keep blogging ....

  22. I love seeing how you take a simple classic pea coat and style it in various ways. Having said that, I'm a HUGE fan of Isabel Marant, A.P.C, Hermes, SF for LV and Repetto so you managed to put all my favorite pieces here!

  23. Great selection, i love all of it ! I just bought i navy oversized IM coat (Azuli oversized wool-blend coat) that is a little bit longer as the one your looking for and i really love it !! And the SC bag is also on my wishlist but so expensive...It would be a dream ...I love it in the Jasper color too !!

  24. It's so enjoyable to read your blogs! Love the collages especially with such a lovely shade of pea coat. Can't wait to see it on you in person. You always carry them so well. Can't wait! :)

  25. Thanks for the comments :-)

    - Cornerstate: Oh no! Don't say that. The gray one is beautiful as well. I already have a gray coat, otherwise I'd have considered the gray version of this pea coat!

    - Brigadeiro: I wore it for the first time today and it is definitely warmer than my Barbour trenchcoat.

    - Prêt à Porter P: Yes, this one is definitely a keeper. Coats are more convenient in terms of the climate here. I'm a little afraid that I won't use my bator coat as often as I used to now that I have this pea coat. I don't want to take it off!!

    - Austere: I agree! One day I want to wear navy from top till toe.

    - Ammu: Luxe is the right word!! Agreed. My mom always reminds me of how timeless navy is, especially when I'm in doubt in terms of choosing between black and navy. Seems like I always end up choosing navy! My closet is the evidence.

    - Nomadic D: Thank you very much! I don't own the Church's brogues. I was supposed to buy them in London, but didn't have enough credit on my master card, lol, so I guess I have to wait till the next time I go to London. They retails for 255 GBP which is much cheaper than in Paris and Milan. I believe they are worth the expense. I've tried them on several times and the craftsmanship is beautiful and I believe the shoes will last forever – if you take really good care of them and let the cobbler repair them every two years.

    - Nanne: Takk skal du ha :-) Har du vurdert en jakke fra Barbour? De er vanntette og superfine!

    - miss sophie: Nooo! Aren't you sad it wore out? The fit is very straight, a bit boxy and definitely very masculine by virtue of the sharp shoulders. It's lined with polyester and cotton. I didn't notice that the coat is partially made of polyester – I try to avoid synthetic fabrics. Oh well..

    - lin: I guess we always want what we don't have. I, for one, wouldn't hesitate on trading the six months of winter for your climate!

    - Alexandra: Thank you! I paid 350 GBP for it. I bought it Aime in Notting Hill. I wish I'd bought it at Liberty because almost everything was 15% off the day I purchased my coat.

    - Anonymous: Oh, why thank you! You're far too kind, really :-)

    - Sebbie: I know, but I just love carrying canvas tote bags and I just got my hands on this one from APC. I like the casual look, and I think canvas totes are fun. No, I'm dreaming of the Coppola x Vuitton bag. It's going to be mine someday!

    - Kate: Ahh, I agree with you! I've been wearing white shirts underneath o-neck sweaters for weeks now. It's become part of my uniform. I love a nice, feminine collar paired with a boyish sweater for the contrast.

    - Anonymous: Oh no! Maybe you can see it on my polyvore? Just search for deadfleurette. I love Margaret Howell, but I find the sizings too large. I tried on a very beautiful Howell shirt while in London, in XS, but it was as if I was wearing a medium – and I tend to buy my shirts oversized. It's such a shame as I love everything from M Howell.

    - Chocolate, Cookies & Candies: Cool! I've visited your blog a couple of times and it's evident that we share a love for the same stuff!

    - L.aime: Thank you! The azuli one is such a great buy!

    - myblythe: Aww, thank you so much!

  26. Sorry for the offtopic, but the black version of "little white dress" from CK Collection (Lara Stone, British Fashion Awards photo in your post "The search for the LBD" from december 2010) is on sale on outnet.com (Foster crepe shift dress, direct link: http://www.theoutnet.com/product/244304). Just thought you mihgt be interested.

I'm not a pea coat kind a person, but I have Bally Scribe brogues looking exactly like the Church's you used for your collage and I must say, they're my favorite and most comfortable shoes ever :-)

    ReplyDelete
  27. fuendetodos: I've seen the dress on theoutnet before, and unfortunately, my size isn't available :-( Do you know how the Bally Scribe brogues retails for? They're really lovely and perhaps a nice alternative to the ones from Church's, which are quite expensive.

  28. Thanks for your reply! (Sometimes I forget to check back here and see if you've answered). I'm actually headed to London in just over a week, so maybe I'll go try them on myself! Great idea to buy them where they're made...

  29. Where in London did you get that APC apple tote? It´s soo adorable! :)

  30. - Nomadic D.: Lol, i don't blame you. i'm normally the worst replier so I guess my readers have stopped checking if I've replied to their comments. Don't forget to check out Liberty as well. The Church's store is on the other side of the road. Have a nice trip!

    - Fanny: I bought it in the APC boutique in Dover Street! It's super adorable!

  31. Bally's are in the same price range as Church's, still both are shoes that will last a lifetime :-) Mine were ~550CHF (~450 euros) three years ago; I had second thoughts buying them, but now I think I will never regret that purchase.

  32. Hi! The coat is beautiful. Which size do you have in it? :-)

  33. Hi Fleurette!

I instantly fell in love with the Thakoon trousers and the Repetto boots, but unfortunately the links don't lead to those two beauties ;-)...
So could you tell me where you found them?

    Thanks a lot!

    ReplyDelete
  34. - fuendetodos: Ahh, I see! Looks like the Church's brogues are cheaper!

    - Anonymous: Thanks, size 0.

    - Anonymous: Hi, I know, the Repetto boots and Thakoon trousers aren't available as they are several seasons old, so that's why I provided links to other similar options as my readers often ask me where I found this and that.

I hve the same coat since one week and I LOVE it!! I have it in grey (dark) but when I bought it I didn't know there were other colours as well...but I like mine so it's fine!! It may sound stupid but I thought of you and the fact that it 'reflected' your style when I bought it!!
