L'hiver avant l'hiver

(images via noirfacade)
Every year I purchase the August issue of Vogue Paris only because I find the editorials more appealing and inspiring, like a simple recapitulation of all the fall trends and designers. But of course, they managed to neglect Vanessa Bruno and Balenciaga...

The funny thing is that Ralph Lauren and Michael Kors are designers I usually ignore when browsing the collection section at style.com. But perhaps there's something with Emmanuelle Alt's styling that made these designers intriguing this time. My favorite is the first photo of Daria Werbowy in Sonia Rykiel. The styling reminds me of this Isabel Marant photo from last year's August issue, which is my all-time favorite inspiration and jacket.

For me, this year's fall fashion is exactly the same as last year's: Spontaneous, relaxed, masculine chic, jackets, simple - just the way I like it. I rarely succumb to anything else...

Another inspirational muse

I haven't got photoshop on my mac yet so I'm stealing collages made by others. I found this in my inspiration folder and I assume I stole it from Trois-Douze a long time ago tfs or google. I love Valentine Fillol-Cordier's love for menswear, grandpa's sweaters and her natural "je ne sais quoi" look. She's just like Sofia Coppola: Not drop dead Hollywood-gorgeous in the conventional way but still unique, genuine and beautiful.

Casual elegance

(images via tfs)
I find Sofia Coppola extremely inspirational both style-wise and as a filmmaker (producer, director and screen-writer). I love that she's neither overdressed nor underdressed. She just oozes femininity, confidence and proofs that a woman doesn't need all that make-up, accessories, fancy hairdos and lavish clothes in order to look elegant and feminine. She even makes a pair of boot-cut jeans look utterly good. I like the little details that makes her casual look more intriguing, like the gold buttons on the t-shirt. And she has designed the most perfect and simple bag ever - with a rather unpleasant price tag, unfortunately.

Besides, I love the fact that she's so genuine yet one of the most beautiful women in the world, even though she's not an example of classic beauty. On facebook, my last name is Coppola. Some facebook friends asked me who I was referring to, and I told them it's Sofia and that I'm in love with her, haha. Some of them said she's awful and ugly. I believe that there is beauty in imperfections. Our flaws and imperfections make us unique and naturally beautiful.

The art of wardrobe building

I was going to write a post about wardrobe building. But as I was searching the folders on my computer, I found this marvelous photo. Who needs to write when this image speaks for itself?

Some useful advices from the Englishman. Stop the constant shopping. It's bad for the earth and the wardrobe. I usually spend months or years finding the perfect garment before I purchase it. Appreciate all the effort you put into finding an item. It's such a relief when you've found it and don't need to search for yet another perfect navy blazer.

A daily reminder

(via lagarconne.com)
This is the perfect summer outfit. A daily reminder to dress lightly in summer. Even when it is 30° outside, I neglect to wear anything lighter but black skinny jeans.

Simple, basic, effortless and perfect

(via fashion-filled.blogspot.com)
This ensemble is simply perfect and perfectly simple. So effortless and easy to pull off in a second or two. I love the wash of the jeans and the way it is rolled up with the blue shirt tucked into the pants. The colors are so pure together. I wouldn't mind wearing this outfit several times a week. It could be my uniform though I am still searching for the perfect pair of straight-leg jeans, a cross between boyfriend jeans and skinny jeans. So far, I've had no luck in finding the perfect blue shirt with the right fabric and fit. Preferably loose, flowy and not too long. The fabric should be very soft and delicate, not as stiff as shirts tend to be.

Items I regret I didn't purchase

1. This Isabel Marant tweed jacket is perfect, exactly what I've been looking for. I've missed out on many jackets like this from Isabel Marant and I was determined to get my hands on one of her jackets this season. The jacket is a classic piece just like the tweed jackets from Chanel. I would love and wear it forever.

2. This striped cashmere sweater from A.P.C. is a classic item. I've tried it on once and it was utterly perfect. Because it was too pricey in Norway I wanted to grab it in Paris, but the A.P.C. store didn't have it. Unfortunately, it was sold out in Norway when I returned to the store so as to buy it.

3. This A.P.C. shirt is extremely cute. I almost bought it in Paris but I wasn't certain if I really wanted it at that time. Now I regret that I didn't purchased it, because the shirt just oozes Fleurette. The shirt combined with rolled up jeans and a pair of brogues would look fantastic.

I'll bring my mac too

(via jak&jil.com)
Packing the luggage has never been a difficult task to perform. I usually bring the clothes I wear weekly. I've noticed a pattern in packing: No matter where I travel, I always bring the same t-shirts, the same blouses and shirts, the same shoes, the same cardigans and jeans. My capsule wardrobe is in my luggage. Whether it's winter or summer, my capsule wardrobe works anytime. On the other hand, it would be extremely devastating if my luggage got lost.

I'm leaving Oslo to spend 10 days in Warszawa and Budapest. Follow me on bloglovin for preset posts!

The gentlewoman

(via aurawithanm)
I rarely ever read fashion magazines. Occasionally I pick up a copy of Vogue Paris even though it does not really intrigue me. Is it just me, or has the majority of fashion magazines taken a new disturbing direction nowadays? I can't really put my finger on it but there's something wrong... something that makes me avoid the fashion magazine racks.

(via premierissues)

However, there is an exception. I think I've found the fashion magazine of my dreams. The mailman just dropped off the first issue of The Gentlewoman today. I know I'm incredibly late but I have literally been tracking down this magazine for months now. Eventually, I found a person who volunteered to sell her own copy to me. This is a well-written and quite inspirational magazine. The layout is perfect, exactly how I want a magazine or my own magazine to look like. Simple, clean and perfect. I am really looking forward to read the interview with Phoebe Philo, one of the most inspiring and talented persons in the fashion industry, which I'm saving for the airplane trip. In fact, I discovered the magazine by accident as I was googling photos of Phoebe Philo, and I'm happy I did it.

The description of the magazine on their website is as intriguing as the magazine appears to be. This magazine is everything I hoped for.

"The Gentlewoman is a new biannual style magazine for a new decade. Featuring inspirational, international women, it pairs ambitious journalism with a sartorial and intelligent perspective on fashion that is focused on personal style – the way women actually look, think and dress." Oh no.. not another fashion blog

(via thesartorialist.com)

I assume that's probably your first thought when you discovered the revival of this blog. I'll skip the part where I tell you all about the numerous fashion blogs out there and that the world isn't exactly in need of more. Instead I'll try my hand at explaining why I've decided to pollute the blogosphere with yet another fashion blog.

First of all, I have been longing to discover a gemstone amongst the ocean of fashion blogs. A fashion blog that appreciate the simplicity in clothes and style, focus on French dressing, discuss the importance of perfect cuts, timeless clothing, the perfect capsule wardrobe and so on. I really enjoy reading those kind of blogs but unfortunately there are only a few of them (and they're all on my blogroll). Trust me, I am constantly searching for blogs that satisfy my demands and I tell you that's not a simple task. Recently I discovered that one of my favorite blogs, which met my demands, got deleted. The disappearance left me devastated. Then an idea struck me, since I couldn't find the kind of blog I want to read, I would create one myself.

(via thesartorialist.com)

As some of you may have noticed, my style has evolved and changed a lot over the past years. Not only have my style changed – as a person I'm definitely not the same old Fleurette you remember from the other blog. Okay, so I am still the "same" person, but much grown-up, reasonable and fatter (lol). I've noticed that I appreciate simplicity in everything nowadays. I like the idea of simple living and I've become more aware of environmental problems. Every day I am seemingly getting better at participating in earth day activities. Consumerism is yet another problem I observe amongst the fashion bloggers. I believe it is possible to look stylish, well perhaps not stylish, but great and chic without the urge to add new items to the wardrobe all the time.

A year ago, I donated practically all my clothes to charity. That's my first step to the pursuit of a simpler and greener life. I feel greater and I love the fact that I do not have to respond to a lot of clothes and clutter in my life anymore.

So, I guess the revival is my attempt to create the fashion blog I am constantly searching for. And I guess I am using the blog to deal with depression, loneliness and low self-esteem as well as hoping to inspire someone out there to stop shopping the planet to death. Blogging keeps my mind occupied.

The uniform no. 1

Isabel Marant shirt - Levi's jeans - Isabel Marant boots

I have a tendency to stick to only a few outfits, which are my uniforms. I usually wear this uniform after a major binge, or whenever I want to look effortless or don't feel like squeezing my internal organs into skinny jeans.

Washed Out - Belong

My wardrobe essentials pt. 1

1. The beloved 'Bidou' suede boots from Isabel Marant

Ever since I purchased these boots in Paris, we have not been separated unless it rains. My wardrobe color palette is restricted to black, grey, white and navy. Funny because I'd never think of spending a lot of money on a pair of boots in the strangest color called taupe. But I love these shoes and consider them as my wardrobe essentials. The Isabel Marant boots define my style and they're so French. Wearing these boots make my outfits less predictable. Believe it or not - these shoes go with everything in my closet.

Emmanuelle Alt

I'm definitely not one of those who are fed up with French voguettes. I love this list, which, I suppose, is Emmanuelle Alt's wardrobe essentials.

Fall wardrobe planning

It's never too early to start planning the fall wardrobe. I never buy appropriate clothes for warmer seasons, which explains why I hate being outdoors during the summer. Baking sun + dark, skinny jeans = AVBC (a very bad combination). Spring/summer clothing rarely appeals to me so I'd rather shut myself indoors planning my fall wardrobe than playing out in the sun.

I have this rule that says I can only purchase 4-5 garments a season. Compulsive thoughts or fashion rules? I have no idea. However, I haven't bought anything from H&M or other chain stores in the past years, which makes it easier to invest in stuff I really crave. But purchasing a $1500 handbag isn't a quick or easy decision. It's hard to tell if I actually crave for a garment or not. And my worst fear is to buy on impulse. I have to start planning early and wait another two months to see if I still want the item instead of calling every store in the whole world only to track down an item I'd missed out on. Lol, story of my life/favorite jacket.

Lately I've been thinking of this pullover from Isabel Marant. The pullover is actually the only thing I liked from the f/w collection, which is however a huge disappointment. The pullover is versatile and I can see myself wearing it all the time with a pair of black skinny jeans or boyfriend jeans. It would definitely fit into my wardrobe perfectly. But the downside is that it has to be hand-washed. I'm too lazy for that.. Well, we'll see if I decide to get my hands on this pullover.

The revival of Dead Fleurette

Hi. After a very long hiatus, I am pleased to announce that I have revived this blog. I hope my old readers will start following me again - preferably the nice ones, because I am hoping for a new blog era sans mean readers. Nasty, anonymized comments are so 2008, let's move on.

The former Dead Fleurette is indeed dead. Say hi to the new Fleurette.
